Course overview
Course description
Come and learn Latin in a friendly, supportive and stimulating group.
This course is intended for students who have covered the grammar required for GCSE Latin as well as some further grammar (the present and perfect subjunctive and their use in subordinate clauses). You will not be expected to remember all of this. Part of each session will be devoted to revising grammar and you, the students, will help to choose what we revise. As well as consolidating previous learning, you will learn some new skills through a mixture of grammatical exercises, quizzes and, above all, by reading original Latin verse and prose. Wherever possible we will consider the impact of the ancient Romans on modern society and culture. The aim is to enable you to become independent readers of Latin, moving towards the standard required for AS level, and to continue you on the path of enjoying some of the greatest literature ever written. This course will give you skills which you can apply to your understanding of history, society and culture and boost your confidence and well-being by successfully meeting the challenges of an ancient language and learning from the insights of everyone in the group.
