Course overview
Course description
Come and learn Latin in a friendly, supportive and stimulating group. This course is intended for students already begun to study Latin beyond the level required for GCSE. You should be able to use the all four tenses of the subjunctive and all six infinitives to form and translate complex sentences. You will not be expected to remember all of this. Part of each session will be devoted to revising grammar and you, the students, will help to choose what we revise. As well as consolidation, you will learn new skills through a mixture of grammatical exercises, quizzes and, above all, by reading Latin. In this advanced course, you will be given extracts of Latin to prepare independently, which we will then translate and discuss in class. You will develop your skills in appreciation and analysis of the style and impact of the Latin. On completion of this course, you should have advanced skills in Latin and the capacity to enjoy Latin as an independent reader. This course will also give you skills which you can apply to your understanding of history, society and culture and boost your confidence and well-being by successfully meeting the challenges of an ancient language and learning from the insights of everyone in the group.
