Course overview
Course description
This course briefly introduces you to some ways to make your characters more layered and complex. We’ll take inspiration from characters from published stories including fiction and memoir and apply some of the techniques studied with a range of writing exercises.
We’ll look at what details are included to help draw a well-rounded character beyond the description of appearance to character traits, quirks, secrets, bad habits and flaws. We’ll work on putting our character into a variety of situations to bring out a range of responses.
You’ll be invited to share some of your writing and/or reflections with other students in small break out rooms.
During the four-week course you’ll be invited to submit a piece of writing which will be workshopped in the session and you’ll be given written feedback from the tutor.
The four-week course starts Feb 5th to continue and deepen the learning
