Course overview

This course will help you to practice your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English. It will help you get ready to move onto a Level 1 accredited course in the future

Course description

This course is for students who have already passed the Functional English Entry 3 exam or have that level of English. It will help to improve your spelling of less common words by using strategies you have learned before. You will write for different purposes, and identify and correct common spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors in a text.

You will develop your listening skills to help you identify relevant information, and to respond appropriately in a discussion. You will explore reading strategies to get different kinds of information (main idea, details) from a variety of texts. Take part in a range of formal and informal topical discussions, explaining my personal views clearly and making relevant contributions. Identify and explain how prefixes and suffixes can build up word families (adverbs, nouns and adjectives) from a common root word. Write a formal letter (such as a job application) using an appropriate layout and structure. Use an appropriate reading technique for different reading situations. Review written texts, making any necessary changes or corrections to errors of spelling, grammar or punctuation.

You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).

You will need a personal email address to join the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas. If you want to understand more about our digital learning platform please visit: http://bit.ly/ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵonline.

The tutor will give you work for most lessons and can tell you about other books or websites that will help if you want to study more at home.
