Mark Barfoot

Based in Sunderland, North East England, Mark has been playing and teaching West African drumming for over 20 years. He offers weekly evening classes, monthly workshops, and tailored sessions for schools, community groups, and organisations. Collaborating with dance artist Tracey West, Mark delivers inclusive and engaging drumming and movement workshops.
With a Diploma in Higher Education (Lifelong Learning) and experience teaching through the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ, Mark is committed to making learning accessible. His instruction focuses on traditional Malinke rhythms from Guinea, learned through study trips with master drummer Nansady Keita. Mike emphasises both the joy of participation and the cultural depth of the rhythms in his teaching.
