Course overview
Course description
This course is aimed at introducing people who want to learn how to use some simple basic skills in BSL to communicate with others. This could be family members, work colleagues or to help you in your job.
The course will cover the following:
· BSL alphabet and fingerspelling.
· Useful signs such as greetings, and common phrases.
· Each week you will review and practice previous signs and learn signs for a new topic.
· Learn to recognise language conventions relating to BSL structure and culture.
There are currently 12 million adults who have hearing loss (Source: RNID 2018) and of these 151,000 of these use British Sign Language. The British Deaf Association reported that there are 1.4 hearing people using BSL at home for every Deaf BSL user in the home.
By learning BSL you will be able to effectively improve your communication and feel more confident in working with a D/deaf BSL user.
