Course description

This engaging drama course, tailored for adult learners with Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities (LLDD), harnesses the transformative power of storytelling and performance to enhance personal and communal narratives. Rooted in the principles of the Bradford Anti-Poverty Strategy, the course seeks to empower participants by fostering creativity and community connection in an inclusive and safe environment.

Central to the course is the exploration of maps and geographical locations. Participants will delve into maps of their local areas, uncovering the rich tapestry of personal memories and historical events associated with these places. These explorations will serve as the foundation for creating compelling characters and narratives, allowing learners to express their unique perspectives and experiences.

The course structure includes a variety of interactive drama activities, such as improvisation, role-play, and script development, all designed to build confidence and enhance communication skills. By interpreting and dramatizing their findings from the maps, participants will not only develop their storytelling abilities but also deepen their understanding of their personal and community identities.

Guided by an experienced tutor, the course ensures a supportive and nurturing atmosphere where all learners feel valued and heard. By the end of the course, learners will have created a portfolio of stories and performances that reflect their journeys and the significance of the places they inhabit.
