Course description
The course with a native Russian tutor introduces remarkable Russian women who made considerable contributions to Russian and World History and Culture. You will discover new names and unveil mysteries about some familiar historical figures. A ballet dancer inspired Picasso to revamp his style. A feminist turned into a diplomat after falling out with Lenin. A ‘Kremlin Princess’ caused a scandal by defecting to the West. An opera diva rescued Solzhenitsyn and befriended Benjamin Britten. Their extraordinary lives, affected by different historical and political contexts, were full of hardships and pleasures, excitement and bewildering twists. The course is supplemented with audio and video materials, a reading list and handouts with interactive tasks.
