Course overview
Course description
What do other countries traditionally eat for Christmas dinner, why (a good question for the non-Christian ones), and is any of it something we’d like to borrow? The Americans, for instance, have already had their Turkey Day, so have a different meat (or two, or three). Japan seems to have been the victim of an American marketing campaign. Quite a lot of Catholic countries have a fish spectacle on Christmas Eve. And why would anyone’s traditional Christmas dinner be a Chinese takeaway?
We’ll also have a look at French cakes, which are very different to our own, and German gingerbreads.
No recipes this time, but possibly a list of places to buy the more interesting ingredients.
If you like the sound of this, my talk on “Christmas Food Through the Ages” may also be of interest, as may “The 12 lunches of Christmas”, and “Christmas dinner – what, where and why”
