Course overview
Course description
We will consider what museums are for and how they collect the objects they care for. Then working from photographs we will develop an inquiry into each object covering a range of questions such as what objects are, what they were used for and who used them, as well as what they can tell us about the history of Essex. The ten objects include tools, souvenirs, archaeological finds, art works and some mysteries. Each investigation will be supported with additional material such as newspaper reports and photos and information to help you see the objects where they are on display. Expect a slide presentation, group discussion and suggestions of reading and follow up visits to local museums and exhibitions.
